Lakers are hiring a new Part Time Cookery Instructor for our busy Centre in Bray.

Lakers Sports and Social is a unique and vibrant organisation based in Bray, Co. Wicklow, dedicated to enriching the lives of individuals with intellectual disabilities. We provide our 350 members with the opportunity to participate in over 70 sporting and social activities in a supportive and inclusive environment. These activities play a key role in enhancing our members’ self-esteem, social skills, health, and fitness, empowering them to engage actively in their communities.

In addition to a dedicated team of staff, Lakers is supported by a network of 140 volunteers who are vital to delivering our programs. Volunteers assist in running classes, support coaches and tutors, and help with the daily operations of the organisation.

We are seeking to recruit a Part-Time Cookery Instructor to deliver engaging, practical and inclusive cookery sessions for our members.

About the Role:
This is a part-time, hands-on instructional role designing and delivering group-based cookery classes to individuals with intellectual disabilities. The role is ideal for an enthusiastic, patient and creative individual who enjoys teaching life skills in a supportive and encouraging environment.

Cookery sessions will focus on developing practical cooking skills, healthy eating habits, confidence, independence and enjoyment of food. Classes may include basic cookery, baking, meal preparation, nutrition awareness and themed or cultural cooking activities.

Hours: 20 hrs per week based in Lakers, The St. Andrews Centre, Bray, Co. Wicklow.

Key Responsibilities:

• Plan and deliver structured, engaging and accessible cookery sessions for groups of adults and teens with intellectual disabilities
• Adapt teaching methods to suit varying abilities, learning styles and support needs
• Promote independence, confidence and participation in all sessions
• Support members to develop practical life skills including food preparation, kitchen safety and healthy
eating.
• Plan menus and recipes appropriate to participants’ abilities and programme goals
• Manage shopping, budgeting and preparation for classes
• Ensure kitchen set-up, safe food handling, and clean-down procedures are followed
• Maintain high standards of food hygiene and health & safety at all times
• Manage allergens and dietary requirements safely and responsibly
• Complete basic session records and contribute to risk assessments as required
• Work collaboratively with staff and volunteers to ensure a positive and inclusive experience for all
participants

About You:
• Experience delivering cookery classes or working in a food-related environment
• A cookery or food-related qualification is desirable
• Experience working with individuals with intellectual disabilities is an advantage
• Food safety/HACCP certification desirable
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to plan, organise and manage sessions independently
• A flexible, adaptable and positive attitude
• Commitment to health & safety, safeguarding and inclusive practice
