Lakers Sports and Social is a unique and vibrant organisation based in Bray, Co. Wicklow, dedicated to enriching the lives of individuals with intellectual disabilities. We provide our 350 members with the opportunity to participate in over 70 sporting and social activities in a supportive and inclusive environment. These activities play a key role in enhancing our members’ self-esteem, social skills, health, and fitness, empowering them to engage actively in their communities.
In addition to a dedicated team of staff, Lakers is supported by a network of 140 volunteers who are vital to delivering our programs. Volunteers assist in running classes, support coaches and tutors, and help with the daily operations of the organisation.
Due to additional funding received from the Toy Show Appeal & Community Foundation Ireland (RCN; 20044886) we are seeking to recruit an additional Full-Time Sports & Social Instructor to deliver engaging, practical and inclusive sessions for our members.
Contract Type: Fixed-Term (12 months)
Please note: This position is funded for a period of one year. Continuation of the role beyond the initial 12-month contract is dependent on securing additional funding. While Lakers will make every effort to obtain further funding, renewal or extension of this position cannot be guaranteed.
About the role: As a Sports and Social Instructor, you will be responsible for developing and delivering activities to Lakers Junior and Adult Members. You will provide, under direction, instruction in a variety of areas including, sports, arts, crafts, social skills, cookery depending on Lakers requirements.
Hours of work: 30 hours per week, will include evening and weekend work.
Key Responsibilities:
• Working under the Programme Manager
• Working in partnership with Lakers members to facilitate their active involvement in their activities
• Research and develop sports and recreational activities
• Planning and delivering weekly activities
• Provide support and guidance to members, parents, and guardians
• Provide support and guidance to volunteers and work experience students
• Maintain a professional, helpful learning environment
• Maintain good health and safety practices at all times
• Assist in developing curriculum and class calendar
· Training/Tutoring experience
· Clean Drivers licence
· Experience with disabilities
· Experience with children/young people
· Computer literacy
· Genuine respect and empathy for diversity and individuality.
· Flexible, responsible, and mature approach to work.
