Welcome to our March newsletter! Wow what a world wind few months 2025 has been so far. We are four months in and Lakers has been go, go, go – and March has been no different!

Pancake Tuesday, Yum Yum!
Did you all enjoy Pancake Tuesday?We sure did at Lakers!
Pancake Tuesday this year took place on March 4th. For the week all our cookery classes were in full swing , flipping, stacking, and topping delicious pancakes to celebrate the day! From classic lemon and sugar to indulgent chocolate and berries, to a fantastic savoury option, our members had a blast getting creative in the kitchen.
Cooking together is always a great way to learn new skills, share laughs, and, of course, enjoy some tasty treats! 
Lakers had a great October! With prepping for Halloween and a fun filled disco - we had a busy month!
World Book Day!
On the 6th of March the Book Club and our Silver Programme (our dementia group) joined forces for a literary adventure to Dubray Bray in celebration of World Book Day!
Armed with their Free Book Vouchers, they all set off on a lovely stroll up the road from Lakers to Dubray Books on Bray main street, ready to dive into a world of stories.
Once inside, excitement filled the air as everyone explored the fantastic selection of books, carefully choosing the perfect read to take home. 
One by one, they made their way to the checkout, exchanging their vouchers for a brand-new book of their own.
But the fun didn’t stop there! Back at the centre, they all cozied up with a cuppa as the Book Club instructor Niamh brought the stories to life, reading aloud from some of the new books. A perfect way to wrap up a wonderful morning of books, friends, and shared stories.

Special Olympics Badminton event
On Sunday the 2nd of March our Badminton team headed out to Gormanston Park in Meath to take part in what the Special Olympics Ireland social media team called ‘The biggest Badminton event ever hosted by Special Olympics Ireland’. There was 150 athletes from all across Ireland competing and our guys were lucky enough to be a part of it. Well done to all our Badminton players who took part and braved the long day out.

St Patricks Day
What an incredible time we had celebrating St Patricks Day this year!
We were honoured to take part in both the Greystones and Bray parades, and wow—what an atmosphere!
The energy, the cheers, and the sea of green made the day truly magical. 
Even though the weather was a bit chilly, the warmth of the community spirit more than made up for it. From the amazing floats to the lively music and all the smiling faces along the route, it was a day to remember! 
A huge shoutout to everyone who came out to support, wave, and celebrate with us—you made it so special! Until next year, Sláinte! 
Table Tennis Interclub
On March 13th our Table Tennis players took part in an epic trip to Sallynoggin for an action-packed interclub showdown with the Blackrock Flyers! 🏆🔥
Our players brought their A-game, showcasing skill, determination, and incredible teamwork. Every rally, every point, and every moment was a testament to their hard work and dedication! 💪👏
A huge shoutout to the Blackrock Flyers for the fantastic matches and sportsmanship—it was a great day of friendly competition and fun! 🎉💜 We couldn’t be prouder of our team for giving it their all. Onwards and upwards! 🚀🏓

🏊♀️🌟 Lakers Swimmers shone at the Special Olympics Ireland Regionals at Newpark Sports Centre on Saturday 29th and Sunday 30th of March! Our amazing Lakers swimmers hit the pool with passion, power, and pure determination—making waves in every sense of the word!
We’re beyond proud to share that our athletes brought home an incredible haul of medals 🏅:
🥇 6 GOLD – Huge congratulations to Una, Sadhbh, and Richard for powering through the water and clinching top spot on the podium!
🥈 4 SILVER – Hats off to Meena, Jordan, and Gary for their fantastic swims and well-earned second-place finishes!
🥉 3 BRONZE – A big cheer for Aoife and Ronan for their grit and determination, earning them spots on the podium as well!
💜✨ A massive round of applause to every single one of our swimmers—whether you brought home a medal or not, you gave it everything, swam with heart, and represented Lakers with pride and passion.
Your dedication, spirit, and sportsmanship continue to inspire us all. Here’s to more amazing moments ahead—GO TEAM LAKERS! 💪
